The majority of the Kyrgyz in Xinjiang liveLhasa Toursin an 'autonomous prefecture' to the north and west of Kashgar, closed to visitors except those passing through on their way to or from the Torugart Pass. The men can occasionally be identified from amongst the other Turki peoples because, like in Kyrgyzstan itself, they wear the ak-kalpak, a tasselled white felt hat.
